Interior Designer

Conversation this morning:

Me: Daniel, be careful. Don't get that marker too close to the edge of the paper or it will mark my carpet.

Daniel: Would you like that?

Me: No, I don't want marker on my carpet.

Daniel: Why?

Me: It will make a spot, and it will ruin my carpet.

Daniel: Then we'll have to go buy new carpet.

Me: No, we can't be buying new carpet right now.

Daniel: Mommy and Daddy and Daniel will pull, pull, pull up this carpet and put it in the trunk. We will haul it. We will haul it to Pier 1. Then we will get new carpet. Maybe we will get purple carpet! Yeah! If we get purple carpet, everyone will be so happy! And then, it might be a party! A birthday party!

Outsmarted

I was outsmarted by my two-year-old. I'm afraid this will only be the first of many times to come.

Daniel was busily trying to put food into his milk (as usual) during dinner. I took his milk cup away and said, "We don't put food in our milk."

Daniel: What do we put in our milk?
Me: Nothing. We don't put anything in milk.
Daniel: We put straws in milk. Mm-hmm.

Doh!

The Field

Now that we're having warmer weather (as in 90 degrees already!), Daniel takes his trike out almost everyday. He rides all the way down to the end of the road, where it dead-ends into a field. Then he parks it, gets off, and starts tromping through the field. The routine lately has been to find a good spot with a lot of dirt and lay down in it. He lies on his tummy and just feels all that nice warm sand all over him, and he's in heaven. He could stay out there for hours, and sometimes, he does. He collects leaves and twigs, pretends to plant gardens or build houses, and runs around being free. He loves to be outside!

On a side note - we had our first "peeing outside" adventure when we were in the field the other day. And it was me, not David, that had to do the teaching. Yikes! We were so far from the house, and he really had to go, and though he's getting better about holding it, he's not perfect. I suggested peeing outside, and he said, "Like a dog?" Yep, just like a dog. We both learned a little bit. I was a little nervous that it might get all over his pants, but apparently, there's quite an arch on that spray! Who knew? He did pretty good and was amazed at the puddle he made. I'm hoping David gets the next one.

Fredericksburg

We spent last weekend in Fredericksburg with David's side of the family. We had a really nice time. The house we stayed at had a gorgeous outdoor area (including an outdoor kitchen!), and we took full advantage. Daniel enjoyed going to the stores downtown and didn't let us forget that we had seen a chocolate store on our way into town until we let him pick out a chocolate on the last day.

Cutest story from the trip happened while we were all driving to mass on Sunday. We were in four separate vehicles because we were headed home afterward. Daniel said, "Are they driving?" I said, "Is who driving?" Daniel replied, "All the people that we love." He's a keeper!

OK - one more cute story. We were in downtown Fredericksburg when a couple walked by wearing cowboy hats, boots, etc. Daniel said, "Look! A cowboy! And look! A cowboy lady!" I guess we don't have any books with cowgirls in them yet. :)

Mardi Gras

We had fun on Saturday at the Mardi Gras party our church hosted. Daniel's favorite part was probably the beads. He thought it was so cool to have all those "rosaries," the name he gives to almost all necklaces made of beads. Of course he also loved the king's cake.
He wanted to go to the dance floor over and over, but he never even moved a muscle when he was out there - not even once. It was fun trying to teach him some of the dances, and I even waltzed with him. When we got home, he said that next year, he's planning to actually dance at the Mardi Gras party, especially to the chicken dance. We'll see!

UPS

Daniel was playing in his crib the other day - he does that sometimes when he's all worked up. It's a nice break for everyone! Anyway, he was playing in his crib when he looked out the window and saw the UPS truck stop in front of the house. He started excitedly yelling to David, "The UPS truck is here. We have a package! We have a package! He's bringing us Shari's Berries!"

Background: My dad sent a package of Shari's Berries (chocolate covered strawberries - to die for!) to us for Valentine's Day, and they came UPS. Daniel remembered those details and sure thought we were getting another box! Unfortunately, the UPS man went to the house across the street. Bummer!

When Daniel Opens A Door.....

Daniel learned how to open our bedroom door. We were in the living room, and Daniel was pulling on the door knob to get in our room. (He wanted to jump on the bed, and I had just kicked him out of there.) He pulled and pulled, and the door opened! He looked for a minute at the door, almost tried to shut it again, then realized it was open. He ran into the room, jumped on the bed, and started shouting, "I can open the door! I can open the door!" while laughing maniacally. I have never seen a more joyful sound come out of my child!

We're in trouble.....

And, no, it wasn't just a fluke. He proved it several more times that day.
